Percy "Spike" Macewan

WESTVILLE – It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing of Percy “Spike” MacEwan, age 61, Sylvester, after a brief illness at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, with his wife Janie and his sister Trudy at his side. Formerly from Westville, Spike is survived by his wife, Janie (MacKean), mother, Shirley MacEwan, Westville, sister, Trudy (Fred Taylor), Eureka, and children: Tom (Kim) New Minas, Lynette (Brian) Halifax, Steven (Katie) Ontario, Ginette (Jean-Luc) Quebec, Nicole (John) Winnipeg and Natalie (Curtis) Calgary. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, brothers- and sisters-in-law that will miss him deeply. Predeceased by his father, Percy, mother-in-law, Eva MacKean, father-in-law, George MacKean, brother-in-law, Jimmy MacKean, former father- and mother-in-law, George and Honey Lays, and brother-in-law, Fred Lays Sr. Last year at the age of 60, Spike retired from the towns of Westville and New Glasgow. As a young boy, Spike developed a love for baseball and could always be found on the ballfield in the summer. Those who knew and loved Spike also knew that he could never say no to a ‘double-double’ from Tims. His bright blue eyes and easy-going attitude will be sadly missed. Visitations will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, December 15th, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 16th, 2007, at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Church, Westville, Monday, December 17th, 2007, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Glenn Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Auburn cemetery. A reception to follow at St. Andrew's Church Hall. Donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 1657 Barrington Street, Halifax, N.S. B3J 1A1 or to the Halifax Haven. "Take 'er cool!"
