The passing of Darrell Johnson occurred at York Manor on Saturday, February 20, 2010 surrounded by his daughter, son, grandchildren, sister, brothers and sister-in-laws. Born in Lower Hainesville, NB on June 6, 1921, he was the son of Gladys (Jones) and Harold Johnson. Besides his parents, Darrell was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Edith (Wilkins) in 1997; his sisters, Alma (Tucker) and Doris (Blaney).
Darrell was a faithful member of the Burtts Corner United Baptist Church. He loved music, and played in the Burtts Corner Brass Band. Darrell enjoyed reading, gardening and his daily walks. He was employed with York Flooring Mill, Lawson Motors, and then Fredericton City Transit, retiring in 1986.
Darrell is survived by his daughter, Beverley (Randy) Johnson-Pollick; his son, Dennis (Sherry) Johnson of Dumfries; four grandchildren, Kirk (Laura) Brewer of Douglas, Kari (Wm) Carmichael of Fredericton, Jill Johnson (Geoff) of Vancouver and Jeremiah Johnson of Moncton; six great grandchildren, Ryan Brewer of Jemseg, Jonathan and Alivia Carmichael of Fredericton, Kyle, Jessica, Anderlee Brewer all of Douglas; siblings, Donald (Pat) Johnson, Willis (Doris) Johnson and Myrna Kelly all of Fredericton.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from Burtts Corner United Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. David Wellwood officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place in the Upper Caverhill Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Burtts Corner United Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
