Walter Downing Jones, 87, formerly of Moncton passed away at his residence in Shemogue on Saturday, February 20, 2010. Born July 19, 1922 in Sunny Brae, N.B., he was the son of the late Judson Gates Jones and the late Beatrice Lenora Downing. Walter was a retired employee with Supply Depot #5 of the Department of National Defence and a Veteran of World War II having served overseas. He was also a Ham Radio Operator (VE9SE), enjoyed hunting, fishing, fly tying and was an avid stamp collector.
Walter is survived by his son Stephen (Rachel Goguen) of Shemogue, grandson David Lee Jones of Fredericton, brother William Jones of Portage Vale, N.B. and by four nieces: Phyllis Watson and Sandra Arnold (Rick) both of Moncton, Caroline Jones of Stratford, P.E.I. and Helen Forster of Port Alberni, B.C. He is predeceased by his wife Lillian May (Huxtable) Jones.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. A committal service will be held at Fair Haven Memorials, Moncton on Friday, February 26, 2010 at 2 p.m. followed by a reception in the Garden View Room.
