Charles Wells Batt, age 95, of Fredericton, N.B. died the early morning of February 24, 2010 at York Manor, after a brief illness. Born September 5, 1914, in Lower Montague, PEI, he was a son of the late George Charles Batt and the late Lillian Grace (Hewitt) Batt Colwell, and was a former employee of the Ministry of Transport at Moncton, NB. He was a member of the RCNVR during all of WW II, serving on various ships as a Telegrapher, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch # 4.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian Marguerite (Smith) Batt of Petite Riviere NS, and by his brother, Albert Gordon Batt of Charlottetown, PEI. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. G. Norman Sheen (Carol) of Fredericton, N.B., Mrs. Theodore Colson (Edith) of Penniac, N.B., a son, James, and his wife, Linda (Marr), of Fredericton, N. B, and a step-daughter, Sandra Selig of Vogler's Cove, NS, and seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, his ashes will be taken to the Wesley United Church Cemetery, Petite Riviere, NS, for a grave-side service and interment in July.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to express their heartfelt and sincere thanks to the Staff and Management at York Manor Nursing Home for their tender care.
