SUTHERLAND’S?RIVER – Robert Henry “Bob” Cunningham, 90, Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital, Northumberland Veterans’ Unit, Pictou, formerly of Sutherland’s River, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2007, in the Unit. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Walter Murray and Jenny (MacVicar) Cunningham. He served with The Canadian Provost Corps during the Second World War (1940-1946) in England, Scotland, Sicily and Italy, obtaining the rank of Sergeant Major. Prior to retirement, he was foreman of the Steel Fabrication Department, Maritime Steel, New Glasgow. He was a member of Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church. Bob had formed the first Boy Scout Troop in Sutherland’s River and was Past President of the Central Highland Association for the Disabled (CHAD). He was a Past Master of Hudson Lodge No. 77, A.F. & A.M., Thorburn and a member of The Royal Canadian Legion, F. E. Butler Branch No. 44, Chester. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Heisler), Sutherland’s River; daughter, Leigh Cunningham, Sutherland’s River; son, Michael, Alberta; sister, Marion Miller, Peabody, Massachusetts, USA; grandchildren, Logan (Ben) Nanton, Timberlea; Holly and Lauren Cunningham, Lantz; great-granddaughter, Chloe Nanton. He was predeceased by sister, Agnes Elizabeth in infancy.- Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from where funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the chapel with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will be in Murray’s Point Cemetery at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church. Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow, will hold their tribute service at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday and Hudson Lodge No. 77 Masonic service will be held 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. www.pkmacdonald.ca
