PICTOU – John Alvin MacLean, 78, of Pictou, passed away January 27, 2008, in the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, surrounded by his family. Born on Pictou Island, he was a son of the late John and Maggie MacLean. He spent his earlier years on Pictou Island before moving to Pictou in the 1960’s. He was a fisherman for over 50 years and he took great pride in his animal carving abilities. He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Lois MacCallum; daughters, Doreen (Ron) MacDonald; Donna Rankin, both of Pictou; son, Chuck (Shelly), Lyons Brook; grandchildren: Jeff, Pictou; Jodi, Grand Prairie, AB; Chris, Red Deer, AB; Aaron, Liam and Grace, Lyons Brook; brother, Anderson, River John. Alvin was predeceased by a son in infancy; granddaughter, Tracey; sisters, Joyce and Flossie; brother, Gerald; son-in-law, Jack Rankin. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou, at 2 p.m. Thursday, with Jacquie Ross officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Maritime Odd Fellows Home, Pictou.
