WESTVILLE - Alexander "Alex" Lays, 92, Dufferin Street, Westville, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, with his family by his side. Born in Westville on November 9, 1914, he was a son of the late Alexander "Sandy" and Jessie (Stewart) Lays. He was a member of the Church of The Holy Name, Westville. He worked in the woods, the coal mines and as a construction labourer until his retirement at age 65. Alex is survived by his son, Mike (Marie), B.C.; daughter, Cathy (Jerry) Guthro, Trenton; five grandchildren: Mike, Leanne, Diane, Tanya and Gerald; great-grandchildren, Sheldon and Dylan, and sister-in-law, Edna Lays. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Catherine (Smith); a son, John; brothers, Freeman, George and Ronnie; and sisters: Mary (Mrs. Mel Munsie), Ann (Mrs. Willard Cameron), Peg (Mrs. Clary Brow), Jessie (Mrs. Bill Langley); Lillian (Mrs. Fred Rumley). Visitations were held on Sunday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 2 o'clock Monday at the Church of The Holy Name, Westville, with Father Donald Boudreau officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Name Cemetery, Westville. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
