MAHER, Allan Francis – 68, of Truro and Cook’s Cove, Guysborough County, died October 19 at Cook’s Cove. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Joseph Elliot and Gertrude Florence (Healy) of Fairview. He is survived by his wife, Rena Langley; son, Stephen; daughter, Kelly (Bruce Macmillan); stepson, Malcolm O’Brien (Barb); stepdaughter, Maggie O’Brien (Derek Day); granddaughter, Bridget, step granddaughters, Cassie, Sarah, and Shannon; sister-in-law, Gertrude (Ralph Maher); Ted (Kathy), Ron (Chook); sister, Betty Etter (John); former spouse, Elinor Maher; several nieces and nephews; and parents-in-law, Curt and Glenda Langley. He was predeceased by brothers, Gerald (Mary); Ralph and Lorne (Mary). He was a proud airman having served a career in the RCAF and was an active Big Brother for six years. He enjoyed writing and was published in outdoors magazines. He was an avid beagler, hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman, and an enthusiastic hockey fan. He was an armchair expert on all levels of hockey from Junior A to international tournaments. No flowers by request. Cremation has taken place. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice. A celebration of his life will be held at 82 Lorne St. Truro, NS, from 2 to 4 on Saturday, October 25, to which friends and relatives are invited.
