Beulah Mae Hirtle

Passed on: July 31st, 2008
NEW GLASGOW – July 31, 2008 in the silence of dawn, Beulah Mae Hirtle (Pentz) began the next leg of her journey. In her earthly life, this very private lady embraced the challenges of raising her families, a passion that all who knew her felt, as they passed through the back door. Mom had many loves in her life – most importantly her children and grandchildren, whose lives are molded in their own special way by her attention; her steady artistic hand that made learning fun yet memorable. Mom had a love for creatures domestic and wild – “Just my pets every one, special in her eyes were the hummingbirds.” Always a gracious host mom had only one little selfish bone and that was her role as “The Greatest Canadian Curling Fan”. We would hear “You Fellows are on your own for supper, My Curling Is On”; and she, with her stats book, was watching and keeping score to the last stone. Mom was born in Pentz, Lunenburg. Co., on December 28, 1931, youngest daughter of the late Evangeline (Nowe) Pentz and Robert N. Pentz. Mom’s family is husband Vernon, New Glasgow; sons, Dwayne (Cheryl Purdy), Merigomish; Darrell (Sharon “Chatty Cathy” ) Bible Hill; daughter, Debbie (Ken Greenidge), New Glasgow; her grandchildren, Amy Hope (Dhar), Hamilton, ON; Nick (Lindsay Sangster), Telford; Chrissy “Ciddy” (Glen Core), Brampton, ON; Kelly (Darrell), Truro; Kelsey and Kaelan, New Glasgow; and only great-grandchild, Carson, Brampton, ON; sisters and brothers: Elizabeth, Lewis, Marguerite, Phyllis and Earl, all at the South Shore. Besides her parents, mom is rejoining with beloved son Hallett “Hal”; grandson, David; brothers, Ross and Carl, as well as sister, Isabel. As Mom’s last request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A special graveside ceremony with her immediate family only, will be held. In Mom’s memory donations may be made to either of these charities which Mom had special attachments to: Summer Street Industries, Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, the Pictou County chapter of the VON or your local SPCA chapter.
