
C. B. "Tena" Mackenzie

SCOTSBURN – Christena Belle “Tena” MacKenzie, 99, of Scotsburn, passed away January 15, 2009, in the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Born in Balmoral Mills, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Douglas) Murray. As a young woman she taught school for 13 years, working in 12 different schools throughout Pictou, Colchester, Halifax, and Guysborough counties. Married in 1939, she moved to Scotsburn in 1940, and began farm life with her husband Milton. She was a longtime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Ladies Aid, and Grace A.M.S. She was also Past Noble Grand of Bethel Rebekah Lodge, Scotsburn, and a former member of the Scotsburn Women’s Institute. She is survived by her son, John Milton (Margaret), Scotsburn; sister, Jessie MacKay, Vancouver; chosen granddaughter, Angela (Trevor) Rae; and her daughter, Abbie; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Milton; daughter, Fern; sisters, Jean and Emma; brothers: Jack, Douglas, Hugh, and Lloyd. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Sunday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the IWK, or the Bethel Presbyterian Church Building Fund.
