NEW GLASGOW – Catherine Sara “Sally”Chabassol, age 80. It is with great sadness that we, the family of Sal Chabassol, announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend. Sal passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 20, 2009 in the Aberdeen Hospital. She was born in New Glasgow and lived all her life in the North End where she raised her family. She was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph and Lenora (Fogarty) Gormley. Sal worked for many years at Collie F. MacDonald Music Store and also for a brief time at the former Roseland Theatre, New Glasgow. Sal was a loving, kind and generous person who always put everyone else before herself. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by all for her thoughtfulness, kindness and, most of all, her good nature and humor. A quote Sal enjoyed, “Friends are like quilts...they are treasures and comforts” is testament to the many friendships she cultivated and cherished over the years. (Sal thought of her friends as quilts... treasures and comforts to be cherished). Sal loved gardening, the beach and sitting on her deck in the summer enjoying her neighbours and many friends. Sal is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bernie; daughters, Reynelda (Bob) Cameron, Moncton, NB; Bernadette (Peter) VanKessel, New Glasgow; sons: Joe (Cyndi), Moncton, NB; Rob (Cheryl) and Ricky, Lyons Brook; precious grandson, Brent, Moncton, NB; and grand dogs: Levi, Casey and Maddie. Sal will also be lovingly remembered by brothers: Joe “Butch” and Bill “Shorty”, Calgary, AB.; David, Charlottetown, PEI; sisters: Florence and Mary, North Sydney; Anne (Bob), Oromocto, NB.; Joyce and Joan, Charlottetown, PEI.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert “Boug” and infant sister, Helen. No visitation by Sal’s request. A public funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 24 at Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, New Glasgow. Reception to follow in the church hall. Cremation will take place with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Sal’s memory may be made to the Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Lung Association or a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H.
