Clyde Theodore (Buster) Long

HOPEWELL – Clyde Theodore (Buster) Long, age 77, of Hopewell, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in Thorburn, he was the son of the late Phillip Long and Christena (MacDonald) Long Hanes of Thorburn. He is survived and sadly missed by his wife, Lalia (Fraser) Long; his son, Kevin (Pam) Long, Westville; daughter, Susan (Randy) Simpson, and two grandchildren in Hopewell, Kyle and Kayla Simpson; sister, Phyllis Costantino of Waltham, Mass.; step-brother, Bob (Ann) Hanes, New Glasgow. Also, his first family in Thorburn: Sharon (Armand) Lorge, Robert (Susan) Long, Ardith (Geordie) Palmer, and Audrey (Timmy) Goswell; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; sister, Jessie Kinley; brothers, Major Harold Long; Phillip Long; and step-father, Bob Hanes. He attended school in Thorburn. He belonged to the Air Cadets and the Reserve Army. He worked with Maritime Tel & Tel, the McBain Mines, the Department of Highways, Vets and Tom’s Taxi and Hawker Siddeley from which he retired in 1988. He moved to Hopewell in 1977 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell. He was a great gardener and took great pride in the upkeep of his yard. People were very important to him, prince or pauper alike. He loved his animals and was a friend to man and child. He loved to go to Thorburn and visit all his old haunts. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him. Donations in his memory may be given to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell. His remains will be cremated and a public graveside service to be held as per his wishes at the Hopewell Cemetery on the Fox Brook Rd. at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2007, with Rev. Gary Tonks and Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. There will be a reception to follow at the First Presbyterian Church, Hopewell. All are welcome. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton.
