Donald Clyde Barkhouse

Dartmouth/Pictou – Barkhouse, Donald Clyde, 75, of Dartmouth and Pictou, passed away May 30th, 2008, in the QE2 Health Sciences Center, Halifax. Born in Upper Burlington, he was the son of the late Clyde and Beatrice (Walker) Barkhouse. Don is survived by his dear lifelong friend, Gloria Pemberton; the Barkhouse family: sister, Carrie (Robert Turble), New Glasgow; daughters, Faye (Gordon Carty), Antigonish; Donna Barkhouse (Peter Rice), Pictou; grandchildren: Tammy, Darrell, Roxanne, Troy, Jason and several great grandchildren; aunts, Violet Churchill, Clara Hazel; cousin, Ken Barkhouse; extended family: Charles Pemberton (Linda), Dartmouth; Rhonda Hennigar, Nine Mile River; Sharon Rutland, Halifax. He was predeceased by sons, Raymond (Ray), Terry; two grandchildren, and faithful furry companion Sam. Don’s lifelong career of trucking was his passion. He was an owner operator for King Freight since 1986 until his passing. He was recently recognized for 2,000,000 safe miles. Don’s fun-loving teasing, great sense of humour and endless stories of travel and adventure will be missed greatly by family and friends. There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 4, at 1:30 p.m. from Pictou United Church, with 2 p.m. reception in the church hall. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Gladstone Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
