RIVERTON, PICTOU?CO. – Doris Anita Shirley, of 29 Riverton Heights Drive, Riverton, Pictou County, passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late Reginald and Mildred ” Tillie” (Leighton) Treby. Doris was a resident of Riverton Heights for the past five years. One of Doris’s greatest gifts was making every holiday special for those around her. Her knack for making people happy was unsurpassed. Her daughters will be forever grateful for her grace, caring ways and dignity, especially in the last year or so. She is survived by her husband Hugh Shirley, New Brunswick; daughters Sherri Hartt, Belnan, Hants County; Su-ann Firman, Head of St. Margaret’s Bay; Shawna Stanhope, Upper Tantallon; numerous grandchildren, brothers Ray (Josephine) Treby, Halifax; Harvey (Patsy) Treby, New Glasgow; a sister Clarice (Richard) Pottie, Berwick; several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or services at the request of the deceased. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton.
