Dorothy E. Mertin, 85, of River John, passed away December 5, 2008, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born Feb. 28, 1923, in Hodson, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Hazel (Morgan) Sutherland. She is survived by sons, Curtis (Linda) River John; Charles (Gwen), Kinmount, Ontario; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Verna Baillie, River John; and brother, Bill Sutherland, Queens Charlotte, BC. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Bert; son, Angus; and an infant son; sister, Cassie; brothers, Alec and Hughie. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Sunday in St. George’s Presbyterian Church, River John, from where funeral service will take place 2:00 p.m. Monday, with Rev. Jeanette Fleischer officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery, River John. Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
