Dorothy Gray

BLACK POINT – Dorothy (Hartling) Gray, 77, Black Point, Pictou County, passed away peacefully at home on January 27, 2008. Born in Brooklyn, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late William Alden and Mary Campbell (Fitch) Hartling. She was a member of Little Harbour Presbyterian Church. Dorothy enjoyed time with family and friends, playing bridge, doing needlework, quilting, and reading. She was an avid gardener. Dorothy worked at The Halifax Herald for more than 30 years as secretary to the managing editor and she also contributed to the newspaper's social pages. She is survived by her sisters, Thelma (Ralph) Boylen, Hall’s Harbour; and Marion (Ivan) Cameron, Halifax; step-daughters, Eleanor Gray, Halifax, Lesley (Bruce) Murphy, Port Williams; step-grandchildren: Kate, Matthew, Jillian Murphy; nieces and nephews: Meredith (Clayton) Collins, Hall’s Harbour, Monte (Diane) Boylen, Centreville, Nancy (Ian) Lobban, Musquodoboit Harbour, Shelley Cameron, Montreal, Rodney Cameron, Truro. She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. J. Allan Gray. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Little Harbour Presbyterian Church on Saturday, February 2, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joanne Vines officiating. Burial to follow in Church Brook Cemetery.
