Edith Maclane

MacLane, Edith D., RN, of Truro, Nova Scotia passed away, October 20, 2008, at the age of 83, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, after a lengthy and valiant fight with cancer. She was the daughter of Douglas and Eleanor Hyndman. She is survived by sons, Bruce Ross (Lynnda) of Oyster Pond, NS, and Harold Ross (Irene) of Carlyle, SK; grandchildren, Timothy and Lindsay, both of Calgary, AB; brother, Peter Hyndman (Eleanor) of Calgary, AB; sister-in-law, Helen Hyndman of Halifax and nieces, Leigh Ann, Nancy, Jill, Martha and Stacy as well as her nephew, Drew. She was predeceased by brothers Bruce, David, Paul, and Bothwell. Edith (Edie/Dee) graduated from Kings Hall, Compton, QC and from The Royal Victoria Hospital Nursing School in Montreal, QC. Edie worked as an RN at the Lachine General Hospital and Colchester Regional Hospital, retiring in 1981. Following, she volunteered in the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital and with many individual families. An avid and competitive golfer, she was a Women's President of the Truro Golf Club and of the Nova Scotia Ladies Provincial Golf Association and was a volunteer coach of several women's youth golf teams. Edith was an active and at times aggressive fan of the Truro Bearcats Junior Hockey Teams of the late '60s and '70s. She was very honoured to be awarded a lifetime membership of the Truro Golf Club. She was a member of the First United Church in Truro. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 22nd from 7 to 9 p.m. with a memorial service Thursday, 23rd at 11 a.m., both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. David MacNaughton and Rev. Gordon MacLean officiating. In lieu of flowers, at the request of Edie and the family, donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital or a charity of choice.
