Edna Jean (Lesbirel) MacDonald of Halifax died on March 13, 2007. Born in Halifax October 18, 1916, the daughter of the late Philip and Mabel (Hiseler) Lesbirel, and a survivor of the Halifax Explosion. With her husband, Rev. Peter Stuart MacDonald, she served many United Church Charges in Nova Scotia, Bermuda, and 11 years missionary service in India. She was always much involved and served faithfully in numerous church and community activities in whatever place she was living. She was a charter and life member of the United Church Women and was active in this organization in various churches. She is survived by her brother, Harold Lesbirel (Doris); her husband of 68 years, Rev. Peter Stuart MacDonald; daughter, Rev. R. Marilyn (Leigh), Milford; sons: Canon Eric S. (Elizabeth), Windsor, Dr. Bruce F. (Olive), Regina, and Ian S. (Linda), Halifax; grandchildren: Alexander, Kirsten, David (Dana), Rachel, Matthew (Shannon), Aaron, and by great-grandson, Gulliver. The family would like to thank the staff of 9B in the Victoria General Hospital for the loving care they gave so freely to Edna over the past nine months. Cremation has taken place. The family will meet relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 16, in the Narthex of Bedford United Church. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 17, at 10 a.m. in Bedford United Church, with a reception to follow in the Church hall. Ashes will be interred in the family lot in Durham Cemetery, Pictou County, at 3 p.m. of the same day, followed by a reception in Green Hill-Alma United Church Hall. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the United Church Mission and Service Fund, or to a charity of your choice.
