BURLINGTON – Elmer I. Mattie died after a lengthy illness at Creekway Long Term Care Centre, Burlington, on Monday, July 21, 2008, in his 90th year. Elmer was born in Tracadie, Antigonish Co., N.S., and served as Captain with the Canadian Army from 1939-1945. He retired in 1984 from Canron as Comptroller after 40 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah Loretta Mattie (MacLean), after 53 years of marriage. Loving father of Joye and her husband, Ernest Gaudet, of Digby, N.S.; Ron and his wife Susan; Bill and his wife Jan; Cynthia Young and her spouse Réal Gadoury, all of Burlington; Paul and his wife, Cindy, of Waterdown. Loving grandfather of Nevin and Neal Gaudet, Michelle Leonard and Shay Sheldrick, Alexa and Drew Mattie and Alexander Mattie. Great-grandfather of three: Allyson, A.J. and Fynch. Surviving are three sisters: Grace Link, Clementine Porter, and Dolly Langille, and brother Jim Mattie. Visitation at Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), Burlington, 905-632-3333 today from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Church, 4072 New Street, Burlington, on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at 10:30 am. Cremation. Donations in his memory, to the Alzheimer Society, would be appreciated.
