NEW GLASGOW - Elsie F. (MacLean) MacKay, 95, of 124 MacKay St., New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2007, in the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lorne, Pictou Co., on August 7, 1911, she was a daughter of the late James Alex and Millie MacLean. Elsie is survived by sons, Jamie (Betty), George (Claire); daughters, Pat (Allan), Carolyn (Bert) Livingstone; grandchildren: Laureen, Brenda and Stephanie MacKay and Elsbeth MacKay-Lawrence; Michael and Kim MacKay; Timothy, Darrell, Kevin and Rob MacKay; Kevin and Kirsten Livingstone; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Keddy Humphreys; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, John W. MacKay (Dec. 11, 1998), brothers, John Bill and Russell MacLean, and sister, Ada Kenny. Elsie was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, where she was a life member of the Ladies Guild, Ladies Aid and treasurer of the Elsie MacKay AMS for 21 years. She had been in charge of the Meals on Wheels program for New Glasgow for many, many years and the co-ordinator of the Canadian Cancer Societies Reach for Recovery Program. Elsie was a member and Past Noble Grand of Golden Link Rebecca Lodge and had held all offices in the Rebecca Lodge for the Atlantic Provinces. She was Past Chief of Pythian Sisters and a member of the LAPM Auxiliary. Elsie was a lifelong Progressive Conservative member and was active in the PC Women for many years. She was a founding member of the Ceilidh Girls%E2%80%9A Pipe Band Mothers Club where she was active for 20 years. Other interests have included the Clan Dunbar Society, The Canadian Red Cross and the Board of the Nova Scotia Training School in Truro. Elsie had been honoured many times and received numerous accolades for her years of volunteer services to many organizations. She held offices in all the organizations in which she belonged. Elsie was a warm and comforting mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a friend to all. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and loved her. Her remains will rest at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont Ave., New Glasgow with visitation Saturday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Sunday, July 29, 2007, at 2 p.m. from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth MacLeod officiating. Private family burial will follow in Lorne Cemetery, Lorne, Pictou County.
