TRURO - Elsie Mae Sutherland Nowicke, 87, of Abenaki Road, Truro, formerly of Abercrombie Road, New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, June 14th, 2007 at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born in Denver, Guysborough Co., she was the oldest of seven children, born to Harry and Sarah (Jack) Sutherland. Elsie spent her younger years of school in Sunny Brae and Bridgeville, before moving to Lochaber, Antigonish Co. She worked in New Glasgow and Halifax during the war years, before moving to New York in 1947 where she met and married her husband, Tom Nowicke who passed away in 1988. She continued to live in her home on Long Island until returning to New Glasgow in 1995 where she lived in her Abercrombie Road Apartment until health reasons caused her to enter Townsend Estates, Truro, where she met and enjoyed so many new friends over the past two and a half years. She enjoyed travel, visiting Europe, and meeting her husband's people in Ireland, Scotland and France. She had visited friends and family in nearly each province of Canada and state in the U.S.A. Her last trip was taken in 1997 to Hawaii. She is survived by brothers; Bob (Bernie), Toronto, Ontario; Donald (Dorothy) Penticton, BC; Howard (Mary), Port Coquitlam, BC; sister, Peggy (Buddy) MacPherson; sister-in-law, Mary (John) Sutherland, Oliver, BC; nephews, Gordon and Bradley MacPherson and families, New Glasgow, numerous other nieces and nephews. Also special friend Peter Prebble, Truro. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by sister and brother-in-law, Ena (John) St. Martin and brother, John Sutherland. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from Our Lady Of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Francis Cameron officiating. Cremation to follow the service. Burial of ashes will be at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, New York. Donations in memory of Elsie may be made to the MacPherson's Mills Cemetery or the Evergreen Cemetery, Aspen.
