Emma Anne Green

New Glasgow – Emma Anne Green, long time resident of Abercrombie Road, New Glasgow, passed away in her 102nd year on Wednesday, October 22, 2008, in Glen Haven Manor. Born in Westville, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (James) Wright. A 1932 graduate of the Aberdeen Hospital School of Nursing and of the Maritime Business Academy, Emma was an honorary life president of the Aberdeen Alumni Association. For many years she volunteered with the Red Cross and the Canadian Cancer Society and was honoured by both for her services. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, the Ladies Guild and the Catherine Mair Society. An avid gardener, she belonged to the New Glasgow Horticulture Society. Emma was an accomplished pianist, artist, fly fisherman and enjoyed fishing in the Beaver Meadow and Ohio, Antigonish Co., with her beloved husband, Doug. She loved being with her grandchildren at their Toney River Cottage. Besides her husband, Douglas Green, she was predeceased by brothers, Will and Ernest Wright. She is survived by her daughter, Betty-Anne “Betsy” (Robert) Fraser, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Shannon (Joel Lelievre) and Scott; nieces: Marilyn (Kevin) Nearing, Milford Stn; Wilma (Charles) Richards, Nashville, Tennessee. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, New Glasgow. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Glen Haven (Lower Infirmary) for the compassion and care given to Emma over the years. Donations may be made in her memory to Glen Haven Manor Social Fund, Camp Geddie, Merigomish, C/O First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow or a charity of choice.
