REED, RUBEN JULES The death of Ruben Jules Reed occurred on Friday, April 4, 2003 at the Queens North Hospital. Born in Minto, NB, he was the son of the late Alfred and Annie (Jaquard) Reed. In addition to his parents, Ruben was predeceased by first wife Nellie Leblanc, second wife Greta Miller, a son Gordon Reed, daughter Dinah Kassiram, an infant daughter and a sister Flora Checoine. Ruben started out at the age of 13 working in the underground mines of Minto. He also raised a family of nine. He joined the merchant navy during world war II and returned to Minto to work on Elli Michells' dragline. The last 10 years of his working life he worked at Avon Aggerate Company. He was an active member of the ChipmanMinto Lions Club for several years. He leaves behind a wife Olga (Kapitsky), loving daughters Ramona (Lawrence) Smith, June (Lynwood) Betts of Minto, NB, Marjorie (Cliff) Dreu of Cornwall, ON, Laura-Lee (Jay) Nehme of Cote St. Luc, PQ, sons Ruben (Joanne) of Hamilton, ON, Curtis (Jean) of Clarksburg, ON, Hank (Ida) of Collingwood, ON and Russell of Ontario. Also survived by a brother Fred of Chipman, NB and sister Lena (Abdul) Mohammed of St. Laurent, PQ, also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Minto Funeral Home, 327-3490. By family request there will be no visitation. Cremation will take place and a graveside service will follow at a later date. Donations to New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foukndation or the W.G. Bishop Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.
