Frank Drummond Yates

NEW GLASGOW – Frank Drummond Yates, 79, New Glasgow, passed away Monday, March 31, 2008, in Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou. Born in East End, Sask., he was a son of the late Rev. Francis and Anna Willard (MacNeil) Yates. He was raised in Baddeck and considered himself a “true Cape Bretoner”. On completion of high school, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and after completing a three year term he resigned. He then completed the Survey program at the former College of Geographic Sciences, Lawrencetown and was employed with the Nova Scotia Power Corporation as a construction surveyor, working throughout the province until retirement in 1993. He was a member of the United Church of Canada, the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 34, New Glasgow and the Air Force Club, Stellarton. Frank volunteered with the S.P.C.A, the Nova Scotia Lung Association, Canadian Cancer Society and Ground Search and Rescue. He was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed singing as a member of the Stellarton Male Chorus and the local men’s barbershop chorus. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Betty (Rehill); daughter, Lynn (Blair) Humphreys, Porters Lake; son, Brian (Anneke) Yates, Vancouver, B.C.; grandchildren: Brendan and Rebecca Humphreys; Téa, Annelies and Johnny Yates; sisters, Dorothy Yates, Betty (Herb) Watts, Halifax; Florence Ahmed, Montreal; several nieces. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service at Frank’s request. Donations may be made in his memory to the Pictou County S.P.C.A. Arrangements are entrusted to P. & K.
