Garfield Edmund Baudoux

Born: July 29th, 1922

Passed on: October 22nd, 2008

Stellarton – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and friend, Garfield Edmund Baudoux on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. He was a former resident of 23 Pleasant Ave., Stellarton, and a resident of Glen Haven Manor since March 12, 2007. Born July 29, 1922, in Stellarton, he was a son of the late Louis “Bill” and Florence (Fraser) Baudoux. Dad worked as a coal miner for over 45 years and worked in several Pictou County mines. He left the McBean in the 1970’s and until his retirement operated Baudoux’s Grocery store on North Foord Street with our mother, Emma. His love of mining was evident in his famous “pit stories” which he continued to tell each day to family and friends who would lend an ear. Until poor health, he enjoyed working in his yard and his gardens and took much pleasure in helping family, neighbours and friends. It is easy to give thanks for Dad’s life. He was a loyal and devoted husband for 62 years and was mother’s primary caregiver for many years until her death. He was an incredible and warm-hearted father who instilled in his children the importance of family. He had a special rapport with his grandchildren and young children always brought a gentle smile to his face. He is survived by his children: Diane (Joseph) MacKinnon, North Sydney; Arthur “Art” (Rita), Upper Plymouth; Robert “Bob” (Nancy Lee), Westville; grandchildren: Michael, Michele, Jennifer, Jodi, Natalie, Justine, Angela, Anita and Brenton; great-grandchildren: Emma, Tyler, Sarah, Hannah, Daniel and Will; brother, Carl (Carol Ann), New Glasgow; sister, Jessie MacLeod, Northwood Manor, Halifax; sisters-in-law, Doris, Pat and Pearl Baudoux, Evie DeBodt. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Emma DeBodt, brothers: Fraser, Eldred, Arnie, Earl and Roy. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Friday in Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton, with Rev. Aidan Kingsbury officiating. Burial will be in Christ Anglican Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Christ Anglican Church or any children’s charity. Dad you will be sadly missed but the many fond memories we shared will live on in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace.
