DAVID EDMUND CORNISH
CORNISH, DAVID EDMUND The death of David Cornish of Fredericton, N.B. occurred at York Manor Nursing Home on Friday, August 29th, 2003. Born in Coulsdon, Surrey County, England he was the son of the late Edmund C. and Bessie (Dore) Cornish and husband of Lois Nadine (Graves) Cornish. David was a longtime resident of Fredericton. He spent forty years in the building construction industry, twenty-nine of which was in partnership with A. R. (Punch) Walker in Maritime Engineering Ltd. David enjoyed many years of involvement in community affairs. He was President of the Fredericton Chamber of Commerce (Board of Trade). He served for three years on the Fredericton Town Planning Commission (PAC). During the 1960's he held office as National Chairman of the General Contractors Section, Canadian Construction Association and as NB Vice-President of the same organization. From 1974 to 1984 he served with the National Research Council as a member of Associate Committee (which produces the National Building Code). He served on two Citizens Committee for National Unity and as a long time member of Victoria Public Hospital Board of Trustees. He was a Charter Member of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Board, on which he sat from 19731986, serving in various capacities including Chairman (1977-1982). He was a founding member and officer of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation Board (1983-2002), he was former Director of the New Brunswick Arthritis Society (1987-1992) and he was an Inaugural Member of ViceChairman of Region 3 Hospital Corporation (1992-1994). David also enjoyed his part-time home in Holmes Beach, Florida as well as his membership in the Fredericton Golf Club and the Garrison Club. Survived by his wife, Lois; daughter, Julia (Jamie) Cornish of Halifax, N.S. and his son, Todd (Susan) Cornish of Fredericton, N.B. and four grandchildren, Christopher and Andrew Lipsit and Owen and Arik Cornish. Predeceased by his parents and sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held for the J. A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Peter G. Somerville, Director of Pastoral Care, York Manor Nursing Home will officiate. For those who wish, memorial tributes made to the DECRH Foundation or the Canadian Arthritis Society would be appreciated by the family.
