WILFRED STERLING (BUD) CROPLEY

CROPLEY, WILFRED STERLING (BUD) The death of Wilfred Sterling (Bud) Cropley of Fredericton occurred on Monday, September 29, 2003 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in St. Croix, he was the son of the late R. Wesley and Mae (Hall) Cropley. Bud taught in many schools in New Brunswick, including in Meductic, Woodstock, Perth-Andover, and the Kingston Penninsula. He later worked as an accountant for Paul Embleton. Bud was a very musical person who could play many instruments, and was a former member of the Burtt's Corner Community Band and the Woodstock Legion Band. A Veteran of World War II, Bud served his country overseas with the Princess Louise's 8th Hussars in Italy and Continental Europe. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for more than 55 years, in Woodstock Branch # 11 and Fredericton Branch # 4. Bud also enjoyed golfing. He is survived by a sister, Alma Dickinson of Fredericton; a brother-inlaw Joseph Neale of Calgary; and several nieces and nephews. Bud was predeceased by brothers Richard (Dick) Cropley and Wayne Cropley; and by sisters Bernice McAleer, Elizabeth (Beth) Neale, and Hester Cropley. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, Brookside Drive at Douglas Avenue, Fredericton North, on Thursday from 2-4 PM. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 PM at the Legion Section of the Woodstock Rural Cemetery. The Venerable Walter Williams will officiate. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will be conducted by the members of Branch # 11 at the graveside. The honourary pallbearers will be Charles Thomas, Gordon Thomas, Stewart Thomas, Wesley McAleer, Richard McAleer, and LeRoi McAleer. For those who wish, remembrances to the CNIB would be appreciated by the family, in lieu of flowers. Personal condolences may be offered via www.yorkfh.com.
