WESTVILLE – Hughie Norman Hill, 77, of Temperance Street, Westville, passed away, with his family by his side, on Friday, September 12, 2008, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Sonora, Guysborough County, he was a son of the late Frank and Grace Hill. Hughie resided in New Glasgow for several years before moving to Westville. He was a steel worker by trade, working for various companies throughout his life, which included Oxford Foundry and Maritime Steel, and at the time of his retirement was supervisor of the tank shop at Lavalin. He also is known for his saw sharpening business. Hughie enjoyed hunting and fishing and had a great passion for wood working, creating many fine pieces of wood art. He also enjoyed his many trips to Florida in the winter. He is survived by his wife, Verna (Purvis); daughters: Cathy Savoie and Sharon Doucet (Emile), both of New Brunswick; Beverley Tracey, New Glasgow, Heather Hill, Stellarton; step-children: Graham MacKenzie, Stellarton, Timothy MacKenzie (Helen), Westville, Heather Benoit (Dennis), New Glasgow, Karen MacKenzie, Westville, Paul MacKenzie (Coleen), Springville; sister, Elizabeth Hill, Sydney; fourteen grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen (MacNeil); sister, Margaret MacKean; and brothers, Francis and Kenneth Hill. Visitations will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. The Holy Name C.W.L. will recite prayers at 4 o’clock Sunday at the Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday from the Church of the Holy Name, Westville. Cremation will follow. Donations in his memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital; The Canadian Cancer Society; or to the Canadian Diabetic Association.
