Sapier (nee Martin) Irene Helen, 86, passed away Friday, July 5th, 2008, at her home at Pictou Landing First Nation. Irene was a daughter of the late Phillip and Lucy (Francis) Martin of Restigouche, QUE. She is leaving her loving family of sister, Dorothy (Bernie) Bernard; son, Martin (Louise) Sapier; daughters Shirley (Roddie) Francis, Georgina (John) Paul; grandchildren: Javenny, Holly, Lowlly, Curtis, Katie and Cody all of Pictou Landing; sister-in-law, Madeline Martin, Truro, N.S. She will be lovingly remembered by several nephews and nieces in Pictou Landing, Truro, Afton, Restigouche and Alberta. She was predeceased by her first husband, Anthony Nicholas and second husband, Martin Sapier; daughter, Bella; sisters: Bridget, Annie, Mary Jane, Janet and Martha; brothers: Max, Fred, Frank, Matthew and Danny. Irene was a great craftsperson and was always making something, including quilts, knitting and bead work. She had a strong religious faith and always looked forward to annual trips to Ste. Anne de Beaupre and to the Mission at Merigomish for Ste. Anne’s Day. The family will receive visitors in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing starting at 5 p.m. Monday, continuing to 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral service will be held from the church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday with Father Gary MacPherson officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Donations in memory of Irene may be made to the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church or the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society.
