Irene Hilda Meikle

STELLARTON – Irene Hilda Meikle, age 98, of Glen Haven Manor, and formerly of Acadia Ave., Stellarton and Trenton, passed away Thursday, September 11th 2008, in Glen Haven Manor. Born in Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late Harden and Mary (Benoit) DeMont. Irene was a resident of Trenton before moving to Stellarton in 1968. She was a member of Sharon St. John United Church and the UCW. She was a former employee at the Heather Hotel. Irene’s greatest joys in life were her family, knitting and crocheting. Surviving are daughters: Vivian Sutherland, New Glasgow; Marilyn Wenzel (Warner), Ajax, Ont.; Linda (Paul) Ingraham, Miramichi, N.B.; a son, Joseph (Heather), B.C.; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Violet Forward, New Glasgow; a brother, Allen (Jean) DeMont, New Glasgow; a number of nieces and nephews along with a special niece, Margaret Sugden. She was predeceased by her husband, Elino; sons, Fred and Elino; daughters, Lillian Friel and Mary Forbes; a granddaughter, Pam; 13 brothers and sisters. Her remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton, for visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Monday from the Sharon St. John United Church with Rev. John Roy officiating assisted by Rev. Jim Webber-Cook. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Donations may be made in memory of Irene to Sharon St. John United Church, the IWK or to a charity of one’s choice.
