Passed on: September 19th, 2008
Finlayson (Grant), Isabel Jean, 94 years. March 24, 1914- September 19, 2008. Born in James River she was the daughter of Norman and Margaret (Taylor) Grant. She was a graduate of Mount Saint Bernard College and was a long time employee of the Royal Bank of Canada in the Guysborough and Antigonish branches. For many years she was actively involved in the Rebekah Lodge, Eastern Star, and was a lifetime member of the United Church Women. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Cecil, brothers, Wilkie and Scott, and great-nephew, Norman. She is survived by her step-daughter, Elinor (Cory) deGraaff and their sons, Michael and Robert; her niece, Margaret Grant Hildebrand; nephews, George, Jamie (Judy) and John (Betty) Grant as well as six great-nieces, one great-nephew and two great-great nieces. Her home was always open and welcoming to family and friends. She was the central family contact for her kin and she will be missed by all. She was a resident of Valley View Villa in Riverton for 10 years and her family thanks the staff for their kindness, devotion, support, and friendship during these years. The family also extends special thanks to Betsy Keay and Janet Landry for their devoted assistance. Jean faced every challenge with quiet courage and grace, and was, above all things, a lady. Arrangements have been entrusted to R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held in Merigomish United Church on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Meredith Marple officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Merigomish United Church.
