J.W. Grant Munro

WESTVILLE – J.W. Grant Munro, Westville, passed away at the age of 84 years, in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, on August 18, 2008. Born in Millbrook, Pictou Co., he was the son of the late Angus and Isabella (Fraser) Munro, and a descendent of the first settlers of Millbrook. He was an employee of Irving Oil Ltd. for 34 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Pictou County Fiddlers, the Gairloch Symphony, the St. Andrew’s Society, the Westville and Area Gardening Club, the Westville Heritage Group, and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville. Grant enjoyed playing the banjo throughout the senior citizen homes and had received his 22 year pin from Glen Haven. Grant is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marguerite (Wadden) Munro; daughter Nancy Thieu (Joe), Elmsdale; and son Kenneth, Elmsdale. He is also survived by his brother, Austin Munro, Westville; grandsons: Shayne Munro (Cheyeanne), Torrington, Alta., Michael Munro (Rachel), Winnipeg, MB., Adam Munro (Krista), Toronto, Bradley Munro, Milford; granddaughter Shannon Munroe (Wayne), Edson, AB; and step-grandson, Khoa Thieu, Toronto. Grant was very proud of his great-grandchildren: MacKenzie and Gavin, Toronto; Grant, Winnipeg; and Jesse and Lilla, Torrington. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Alma Thompson, Anna Van Louvender, brother Cameron Munroe; and nephew Richard Munroe. Visitations will be held from 7 to 9 p.m today and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville, with Rev. Glenn Cooper officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Westville, or any charity of your choice.
