James Edward "Jim" Macarthur

STELLARTON - James Edward "Jim" MacArthur, 76, of 38 Belmont Avenue, Stellarton, died Thursday, January 11, 2007, in the QE11 Health Sciences Center, VG Site, Halifax. Born in Collingwood Corner, Cumberland County, he was a son of the late Robert and Regina (Sharbell) MacArthur. Jim was a resident of Stellarton for more then 50 years, where he was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and Branch 28 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was employed with the CNR for some 34 years, where he served as Vice General Chairman of the UTU. He volunteered and sat on the Board of the Pictou County Health Authority and the YMCA. He served as a volunteer with Revenue Canada's Income Tax Program, served as a Justice of the Peace and, up until his death, he served with the Film Classification Board. He was the founder of the Roy Oliver Road Race and was inducted into the Pictou County Sports Heritage Hall of Fame as a builder. He is survived by his wife, the former Catherine "Kay" Turnbull, Stellarton; a daughter, Donna (Sam Mills), New Glasgow; his granddaughter Malyssa, the biggest twinkle in his eye; a sister Joyce (Rudy) Neuman, Halifax; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Sadie and Jean MacArthur and a friend and cousin, Ken MacArthur. He was predeceased by brothers Robert "Bud" and Elmer; and a nephew Gary. His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie funeral home, Stellarton, for visiting from 7-9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Francis Cameron officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to a charity of one's choice.
