KERTON, BENJAMIN JOHN The death of John Kerton of Beaverdam, N.B., occurred at his home on Saturday January 17, 2004. Born in Fredericton, N.B. John was the husband of Katheryn (Briggs) Kerton and the son of Jean (Humble) and the late Benjamin Kerton. John is survived by his wife Katheryn; two daughters, Angela Kerton and Crystal Allen, both of Fredericton; his mother, Jean Kerton of Fredericton; his six brothers and sisters, Judy (Irving) Banks, Ronald (Marilyn), all of Fredericton, Gloria Shipp of Toronto, Richard of Calgary, and Marie and Joan Kerton, both of Fredericton; his two grandchildren, Katelynn Marie and Cole Benjamin Kerton, both of Fredericton and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Benjamin, and a very special uncle and aunt, John (Jack) and Geraldine O'Leary. Throughout his life, John worked as a truck driver, heavy equipment operator and woodsman. He was an avid horseman for many years. He was a member of the New Brunswick Draft Horse Association and the Canadian Percheron Association. John was awarded breeder of the year with the New Brunswick Draft Horse Association in 2002. He owned and operated Kertons harness shop in Beaverdam, selling harnesses throughout the Maritimes and eastern US. He was a member of the Anglican Church and as a youngster, John served as an alter boy at St. Anne's Parish Church in Fredericton. The family will receive visitors at River Valley Funeral Services (50 Avonlea Court, off of Bishop Drive 4554267) on Sunday, January 18th and Monday, January 19th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 20th at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Nasonworth at 11:00 am with Rev. Bruce McKenna officiating. Interment will take place at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Beaverdam following the service. A reception will be held in the church following the interment.
