Janet Roberta (Cottie) Imlay

Janet Roberta (Cottie) Imlay, 66, of Little Harbour formerly of Stellarton passed away Friday, August 22, 2008, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Stellarton she was a daughter of the late James and Emma (Edwards) Cottie. She was a graduate of Stellarton High School and the East Pictou High School Business Course. She was a former member of the Sears warehouse office staff. She was a charter member of both the Balmoral Girls Pipe Band as well as the Fraser Holmes Ladies Pipe band. She was a member of the 55-plus group and the Line Dancers. Janet was a former director of the Little Harbour Community Centre and dart club. Janet was a canvasser for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years and a volunteer with the Palliative Care Society which she enjoyed so much. She enjoyed many crafts, especially tole painting and had a great love of nature, watching the birds and wildlife in her backyard. Janet enjoyed sunsets, rainbows, flowers, clouds and was known affectionately by the family as the “Weather Lady”. A very outgoing person with a wonderful sense of humour, she will be greatly missed by a host of friends, especially her dear friend Isabel Fraser. She is survived by her husband, Lewis, daughters, Leslie, New Glasgow; and Lisa (John), Stewiacke; grandchildren, Erin, Cody, Colt, Tyler, Brendin, Jennifer and Alanna, two great-grandsons Maddox and Hayden, sisters Sylvia, Dorothy and Rona. She was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers. Cremation to take place. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the Little Harbour Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joanne Vines officiating. Burial of ashes will take place in the Church Brook Cemetery, Little Harbour. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Janet may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Society or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
