Jean Ann Potter

POTTER, Jean Ann M., 79 , of Amherst, passed away peacefully at the QE II Health Sciences Center on Nov. 2, 2008. Formally from Springhill, she was the daughter of the late James (Donut) Wilson and Sarah (Sadie) Merlin. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Henry Potter, brother, Kenneth Wilson and grandson, Mark Henry Estabrooks. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Pippy (Ill.), children Daniel (Dorilda), Moncton, Margaret (Jim), Amherst, Janet, Inuvik, Carolyn (Daniel), St. Margaret’s Bay, and Elizabeth (Jamie) Hammonds Plains. Twelve grandchildren: Alicia Potter, Moncton, Adam (Joann) McCullough, Golden B.C., Matthew McCullough, Toronto, Carly McCullough, Amherst, Peter Bragg, Halifax, Joshua Bragg, Sackville, N.B., Kelsey, Myles and Martin Tonner, Halifax, Benjamin, Mark and Alexandra Lynds, Hammonds Plains. Two great-grandchildren, Wilson and Tristen McCullough, Golden B.C. Jean moved with her husband and family to Amherst in 1965. She was a former employee of CIBC before and after raising her family. She has spent every summer since her youth at Peacock Beach, Northport. Her fondest memories are of times shared with family and friends at the cottage. She enjoyed a variety of interests throughout her life including bridge, curling, bowling, and coffee club. Jean donated her time to many charities, including the Parkinson’s Assoc. where she and Henry gained strength and support from their membership. Jean will be fondly remembered for her kindness, friendship, and sense of humour. Jean will be sadly missed by her family and numerous friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, N.S. (902-667-8777). A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at Trinity Saint Stephen’s United Church, Havelock Street, Amherst, on Friday, November 7, 2008, at 3 p.m. A family internment will be held at a later date in the Amherst Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Society of Nova Scotia or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. www.furlongjones.ca
