PICTOU – Jeanette Mary Bell (nee MacDonald), beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully May 19th in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in Pictou on August 13th, 1923, she was a daughter of the late John L. and Flora Belle (Cameron) MacDonald. Jeanette will be remembered and sadly missed by daughters: Florence Burree (John), Helen Hummell (Wolfgang), Agnes Chisholm (Jim); and son, Vincent Bell (Lois); and special friend, Deanne Hollett; grandchildren: Erika and Justin, Jim and Treina, Cory and Dan, Mike, Kaitlyn, and special grandson, Vincent; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Nolan. She is survived by four sisters: Helen Tenhagen, Lillian Lowery, Margie Murphy, all of Ontario; and Marion Gowanlock (Frank), Middle Sackville. She was predeceased by brothers: Carl, Blair, George, Ingraham, Bill, Russell, and Harry; sister, Catherine; four half-brothers: Louis, Anthony, Joseph, Ranald; and half-sisters, Isabel and Marie. One of Jeanette’s greatest pleasures in the last few years was when Cory would come to play the guitar and sing to her. On occasion, she would pull out her harmonica and play along. She also still loved to play TV bingo, one of the highlights of her week. Another of her favourites was our long evening drives in the country, where we would drive for miles to see how many deer we could find, or maybe stop for a visit at Frank and Karen Richardson’s sheep farm to see the new spring lambs. These were her special times, the ones she enjoyed most. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday from the McLaren Funeral Home Chapel, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Donations in Jeanette’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
