KING, DOROTHY E. The death of Dorothy E. King occurred at Pine Grove Nursing Home, Fredericton, N. B. on Thursday, February 26, 2004. Born in Shawville, Quebec, she was the daughter of John Kenneth King and Pearl (Heatherington) King. She received her early education at Moncton and Westmount schools, was graduated by the University of New Brunswick with the degree of BA in 1936 and by Columbia University, New York with the degree of MA in 1937. Dorothy taught in schools in Louisville, Sherbrook and Quebec City and for 23 years at Westmount High School, completing her career in administration at Monkland High School in Montreal. A bright, knowledgeable, and intelligent person, Dorothy gave much to her profession and her students. She was active in the Provincial Association of Protestant Teachers, and the Women's Teacher Association of Montreal of which she was once President. A firm believer in the value of school extracurricular activities, Dorothy directed and produced for many years the theatrical presentations at Westmount High School and frequently assisted in the supervision of summer tours for high school students. After retiring, she became more active in the University Women's Club, the Alumnae Association of the University of New Brunswick, Unitarian Fellowship and the Capital Branch Genealogical Society. Predeceased by her parents, Dorothy is survived by her sister, Jean (and husband Jack Morrison), her brothers, John (and wife Alma), and Barry (and wife Ann) and was the affectionate relative to many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Dorothy's gentle and humane touch in her relationships will be remembered by family, friends, associates and those who cared for her in recent years. There will be no visitation by family request. A memorial service will be held at the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Monday, March 1st, 2004 at 2:00 pm.
