NEW GLASGOW - John Edward "Jack" Austin, passed away suddenly on September 24, 2007, at the age of 80 years. Jack was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on November 25, 1926, the son of the late Hildegard (Lois) and John "Eagle" Austin of New Glasgow. Jack was a charter member of the Bombers Club and spent many enjoyable hours there with lifelong friends after he retired from the Trenton Car Works. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife, Winnie, this past February and is survived by sons: Brent (Marie), Calgary; Glen (Susan), Edmonton; Gary, Halifax; Michael (Debbie), New Glasgow; sister, June Dorrington, Saint John; grandchildren: David, Mark, Ryan, Luke, Trevor, Kent, Brian, Michele; several great-grandchildren. Jack was also predeceased by sisters, Shirley Fraser and Phyllis MacNabb. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral service by request. A private family committal service will take place in Lorne Street Cemetery. If desired, memorial tributes can be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
