
John Robert "Jack" Kerr

John Robert “Jack” Kerr, age 80 of Riverton and formerly of Stellarton, passed away surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 18th, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late William F. and Emma (Pushie) Kerr of Stellarton. Jack was an employee of the C.N.R. office staff (New Glasgow and Stellarton) for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member and Senior Elder of First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton, acting as Clerk of Session and serving on various church committees over the years. Jack was a former and charter member of the Stellarton Lion’s Club, member and past master of Keith Masonic Lodge #23, Stellarton. He was First President of the Pictou County Shrine Club and a member of the Royal Jesters, and the Scottish Rite. Jack touched the lives of many people through his generosity whether it was his daily visits to the hospital, his presence at church or his routine trips to town. Everyone will remember Jack for his quick wit and friendly personality. Jack will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Jean (MacKay) Kerr of Riverton; daughter, Marion MacKay of Riverton; son, Paul (Karen) Kerr of New Glasgow. Jack’s pride and joy were his grandchildren, Vanessa (Jack) Youssef, Krista (Jamie) MacIntosh, Jonathan Kerr; and his great-grandchildren, Emma MacIntosh and Avery Youssef. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Family flowers only please.
