STELLARTON - Joseph "Walter" Thorne, age 69, of 49 Acadia Ave. Stellarton, passed away on Saturday, September 15, at home. Born in Pictou, he was a son of the late Fred and Martha (Cheverie)) Thorne. Walter was a resident of Stellarton for the past number of years. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. A carpenter by trade he worked in many areas during his working years. Surviving are a son, Bobby (Beverley) Thorne of Thorburn; Daughters: Donna Lee of Calgary; Donalda (Don) Maxwell of Calgary; Debbie MacFarlane of Cape Breton; Brothers: Raymond of Pictou; Albert of Alberta. Sisters: Theresa (Percy) Steele of Pictou; Stella (Ralph) Peckham of Durham; Frances (John) Canning of Pictou; Grandchildren: Tracey, Christopher, Kyle and Chelsey. Several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Clarence, Willie and Clifford; a nephew Donald. His remains will rest in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home Stellarton for visitation from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Charles Cameron officiating. Burial will be in the Stella Maris Cemetery, Pictou. No flowers by request, donations in his memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation.
