BAILEY'S BROOK - Leonard Dougall "Dunkie" MacDonald, 89, Bailey's Brook, passed away suddenly, Wednesday, August 1, 2007, in St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in Bailey's Brook, he was a son of the late Duncan L. and Mildred Ellen (Doy) MacDonald. During the Second World War, he served with the 86th Bridge Company, R.C.A.S.C. He had been employed with the former Hawker Siddeley, Trenton, for 35 years, retiring in 1982 as foreman in the Steel Erection Department. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Lismore, and the Pictou County Old Time Fiddlers. Surviving are daughters: Bobbie (Vince) MacGillivray, Arisaig; Linda MacDonald, Port Coquitlam, B.C.; Faye (Ralph) Kinney, Bailey's Brook; Dawn (Stewart) Robertson, Fort McMurray; Carole "Kippy" MacDonald, Bailey's Brook; Alyson (Ivan) Thompson, Egerton; sons, Wayne (Milly), Stellarton; Miles (Joan), Lowell (Kim), Bailey's Brook; sister, Kaye Gottschall, Antigonish; 17 granddaughters; 17 grandsons; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Carmel (MacInnis); sisters: Annie MacPherson, Mildred Kirwan, Tilly MacLellan and Margaret "Peggy" MacLean; brother, Donald. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 34, tribute service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church celebrated by Father Andrew Boyd and Father Colin MacKinnon. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
