ROBERT (TOM) JOHN KERR

KERR, ROBERT (TOM) JOHN The death in Auckland, New Zealand of the Reverend Robert John (known to his family as Tom) Kerr on March 5 this year was reported recently. An ex-patriot Canadian with extensive local family connections, he was 83. Born in Fredericton on March 27th ,1921, the eldest child of George and Hazel Kerr, he attended public school in Chatham, before graduating from St Thomas High School. At the beginning of WW II he enlisted in the Canadian Army, later transferring to the RCAF and embarking from Chatham for four years continuous overseas service on his wedding day, May 8th, 1942. He flew in United Kingdom, North Africa and the Middle East with 404 Squadron, with air crews from Canada, England and New Zealand. After the War he moved to Hamilton, Ontario and worked for the Canadian Customs Service. In 1964 he emigrated with his wife and four children to New Zealand where he attended Knox College graduating with a BTh. As a Minister in the Presbyterian Church he served in two Parishes until his retirement in 1979. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie (nee Whitty) formerly of Chatham New Brunswick now living in , Auckland, New Zealand; four children and their families - his sons, Wayne and Shirley Kerr, of Queensland, Australia, and Tom and Jocelyn Kerr Fredericton; daughters Bonnie and Charles Fordham recently moved to , Fredericton from New Zealand, and Beverley and Peter Mortlock , Auckland, NZ; six grand-children; Mark, Tarry Mortlock; Scot, Robert, and Richard Fordham; and, Paula Toderan three great grand children Jessie, Jaydyn, Mikayla ; and three sisters Lorna McFarlane, Ripples, NB, Betty Williams, Hagersville, Ontario, and Georgia Pollard, Dartsmouth, NS. The funeral was held at City Impact Church, Auckland, NZ, on March 10,2004. Marie and the family stand together to honor Robert (Tom) for the heritage and legacy in Christ that he has passed to future generations.
