Lewis Sterling Smith

OTTAWA – Lewis Sterling Smith, 88, of Ottawa, Ontario, (formerly of 412 Brother Street, New Glasgow), passed away at the Civic Hospital, Ottawa on October 22, 2007. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late William Otto Smith and the late Catherine Cunningham Smith. Lewis worked at Eastern Woodworkers until he move to Ottawa to be with his sister, Ola. There he worked as a Commissioner with the government until his retirement. He also served in the Armed Forces during the Second World War. In his younger years, Lewis loved to skate and take long drives. He was a friend to everyone he met and loved to talk with friends and quickly made friends out of strangers. Lew loved telling funny stories and his nephews and nieces always looked forward to Lew’s visits expecting to be entertained by his stories. Lew is survived by sisters, Ola Plant and Helen Casagrande; brothers, Clade and Elliott (Odette). He is survived by nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Lloyd and Arthur. A committal service will be held on November 12 at the Lorne Street Cemetery, New Glasgow at 1 p.m. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him.
