MURCH, FRANK RANDOLPH Frank R. Murch of Bear Island passed away July 8, 2004 at his home. Born at Bear Island in 1921, he was a son of the late Ralph and Charlotte (Saunders) Murch. Frank was a farmer, a bus driver and worked on the construction of the Mactaquac Dam. For several years before his retirement in 1986, he was the assistant superintendent of the golf course at Mactaquac Provincial Park. He was a member of the Canadian Golf Superintendent Association, a life member of the New Brunswick Maple Syrup Producers Association, and a trustee of the Bear Island Community Center. Frank enjoyed snowmobiling, gardening, his maple sugar bush and his camp in the woods. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Velma L. (Currie) Murch; a daughter, Janice Brown (Edwin), Bear Island; a son Jeffrey (Susan), Bear Island; a sister Esther Hicks, Ontario; his grandchildren, Melissa Murch, James Murch, both of Halifax, NS, Dawn Dignam (Kevin), Fredericton; Wesley Gunter, South Korea, Benjamin Gunter, Halifax, NS and Alister Brown, Bear Island; two great granchildren, Kayla and Keenan Dignam; a brother-in-law, Wiley Currie, Fredericton; a special friend, Elaine Phillips, Halifax, NS; a god-daughter, Kimberly Somerville, Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by a sister, Mary Murch, a brother-in-law, George Hicks and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Currie. Resting at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic with visiting hours Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Mactaquac Baptist Church, 1494 Route 105 on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Eldon Hicks officiating, assisted by Rev. Roger Urquhart. Interment will be in Mactaquac Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Marion Norquay, Joan Edwards, Barb Allen, Millard Jordan, Gordon Embleton, Reginald Pond, Neill Brown, Melvin Jordan and Vaughn McManus. Active pallbearers will be grandsons Ben Gunter and James Murch, nephews Brian and Phillip Hicks and friends, Fred Somerville and Bernard Brewer.
