REV. PHYLLIS JEAN MENZIES
MENZIES, REV. PHYLLIS JEAN Phyllis passed peacefully away in her sleep July 1, 2004 in Calgary after a short struggle with leukemia. She was born in Fredericton on January 20th, 1920. She graduated from University of New Brunswick (English) in 1942, and Acadia University (Master of Divinity) in 1980. She was an active member of the Brunswick Street Baptist Church in Fredericton and taught school in Hartland, Rothesay and Fredericton, New Brunswick until 1975. She was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1981 at First Baptist Church in Halifax, and served at various pastorates in Nova Scotia, and as a chaplain at the Darthmouth Regional Hospital. From 1997 she was a member of the Northmount Baptist Church in Calgary, and volunteered there as a retired minister, at an elementary school as a teacher's aid and as chaplain at nursing homes in the city until 2003. She was also active in seniors programs, including Huntington Hills Pioneers and the Confederation Park Seniors Centre where she was a member of the Geritol Jivers Band. Phyllis is survived by her children Marilyn Manzer of Wolfville, NS, Dave Manzer of Peers, AB, Gary Manzer (Linda) of North Vancouver, BC, and Natalie Manzer (Steven Méthot) of Calgary, AB; by her grandchildren Lorrie, Ariana, Karl, Sara, Kamila, Nicolas and Josef; her great- grandchildren Leah and Meghan; and by her brother Laurie Menzies (Miriam) of Fredericton, NB. She was predeceased by her parents Allan and Margaret; two brothers, Ronald and Norris and her sister Muriel. The committal service will be held at the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery, where family and friends are welcome to attend, on Monday, September 20, 2004 at 10:00 am. Rev. Terry Atkinson officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the War Amps. Arrangements in the care of McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home.
