Mary (Stewart) Wallace

WESTVILLE - Mary Isabel (Stewart) Wallace, 96, Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Westville, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007, in Glen Haven Manor. She was the eldest daughter of the late Daniel L. and Edna (MacLeod) Stewart, Westville. With the exception of her years at the manor, she spent her entire life in Westville, always taking care of others. She was especially kind to children and was known to many as the "caramel lady" because she always had a pocketful of caramels when she met them. Mary was a faithful member of St. Paul United Church and attended regularly as long as her health permitted and always supported all of their efforts. For many years, she was a member of the common cause club, a card club started during WWII and some of its members still get together. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking part in various activities at the manor, especially enjoyed the music and singing. She is survived by sisters: Florence Darroch, Glen Haven Manor; Helen Connors, New Glasgow; Alice Wilson (Purdy), Riverview, N.B., and Edna Lauchlin, Simcoe, Ont.; a step-daughter, Helen Atwater, Linacy; a special step-grandson, Reid Atwater, and several great step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur; brothers: Victor, Basil, Alvin, and John and sisters: Annie Wright, Margaret Darroch, Susie Stewart, Gladys Forbes, and several step-children. Visitations will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with the Rev, Doug Pilsworth officiating. Burial will be in St. Phillips Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Paul United Church or to a charity of one's choice.
