Mary Irene (MacIsaac) Grant, 91 of Thorburn, Pictou County passed away peacefully Friday, March 7, 2008, at the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on March 31, 1916 in James River, Antigonish County and was a daughter of the late Duncan and Mary (MacKenzie) MacIsaac Mary devoted her life to raising her six children of whom she was tremendously proud. She was loved and respected by her 12 adoring grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered by her wonderful sense of humour and her love of family and friends. Mary was a resident of Thorburn where she was a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church and the Catholic Women’s League. Mary was also a member of the Thorburn Friendship Group. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her children: Joseph (Gina) Lismore; Danny (Donna), Windsor, Ont; Mary Penner, Calgary; Elaine (David) Sponagle, Thorburn; and Anne (Dave) Lumsden, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Linda, Sheila, Michael, Joey, Lisa, Jamie, Heidi, Neil, Peter, Ryan and Adele, six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Angus;, grandson, Blake; son-in-law, Alex Penner; husband, Michael; brothers: John, Alec, Hector and Danny MacIsaac; sisters: Jesse Carter, Florence Gillis and Effie MacDonald. Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday from St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Thorburn, with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Mary may be made to St. Ann’s Building Fund. Our Mom was strong in character. When times would test her faith, she remained steadfast and sturdy, trusting in God’s grace. Our mom was wise and caring, strong but gentle.
