ROBERTA WILSON In WEINER

WEINER, ROBERTA WILSON In Fredericton, New Brunswick on January 18th, 2005. Born in Greenwood, British Columbia, September 14, 1920, Roberta was a graduate of the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto's Library School. She pioneered the first bookmobile program in British Columbia's Fraser Valley in the 1940's and in Brandon, Manitoba and Wentworth County, Ontario in the 1950's. A Charter Member of Canadian Library Association, Roberta also taught Children's Literature at the University of Toronto over several summer sessions in the 1950's. She moved to Fredericton in 1960 where she met and married Dr. Theodore (Theo) Weiner and began her long affiliation with the University of New Brunswick in the library's Circulation Department. Roberta was an avid reader, naturalist, gardener and believer in social justice. She had a quick wit and was generous in every way to all she knew, as well as to many causes in which she believed. She was predeceased by her beloved Theo in 1985 and by her younger sister, Isabelle, in 1988. She will be sadly missed by her niece Margo Hughes (Peter) and nephew Bruce Duncan (Robin) and their families in Victoria, BC; nephew Craig Duncan (Geneva) and his family in Edmonton, AB; and nephew Robert (Rob) Duncan in Antigonish, NS. She has always been a central person in their lives. Roberta will also be missed by her dear friend Arlene Sarty and her children Petrina and Isaac, to whom she was "Grammie". A memorial service for family and friends will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Roberta's memory may be made to the University of New Brunswick Development Office, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
