PHYLLIS BARBARA (nee BUXTON
BUXTON, PHYLLIS BARBARA (nee Craik) Phyllis Barbara (Craik) Buxton of Vancouver and Gabriola Island, BC, passed away on 14 January 2005 at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, BC, at the age of 75. She was the wife of the late J. Douglas L. Buxton (formerly of Minto, NB). Born in South Devon, NB, 28 March 1929, she was the daughter of the late James Irvine and Frances Ethel (Flieger) Craik of Fredericton, NB, and was a member of St. Mary's Anglican Church, Union St., Devon. Phyllis moved with her husband and children to Vancouver in the early 1960s, and lived there for several years before retiring to Gabriola Island, BC. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, her family being her main concern. With her home daycare business, she was Gramma to many. Phyllis was a longtime member of Scouts Canada (39th South Hill) becoming the Assistant District Commissioner for Beavers and was honoured for her long years of dedicated service. She attended St. Mary (South Hill) Anglican Church, Vancouver. Her generous nature and outgoing personality won her many friends; she will be greatly missed by those who knew her. She is survived by daughter Catherine Dianne Lundgren (George), Nanaimo, B.C; son James Douglas Buxton (Judy), Maple Ridge, BC; five granddaughters: Julie Reid, Vancouver (with whom she made her home after the death of her husband); Jennifer Komen, Vancouver; Tanya Buxton and Christine Buxton, both of Maple Ridge BC; Diane Buxton, Squamish, BC; grandson Brian Bjornsson, Richmond, BC; great granddaughter, Amber Komen, Vancouver; one brother, James G. H. Craik (Olive), Lunenburg, NS; three sisters: Helen Furlotte, Oshawa, ON; Marie McNeill (Conrad), of Waterborough, NB; Carol Craik, Vancouver, BC.; sisters-in-law: Phoebe Craik, Newcastle, NB; Dianne (Teddy) Buxton Fenton, Moncton, NB; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by four sisters: Joyce Newman, Vivian Weed, Rita Stafford and infant Ethel Craik; five brothers: William, Kenneth (Bud), George, Aubrey and infant Arthur Craik. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary (South Hill) Anglican Church, 808 E 50th Ave., Vancouver, on the 30th January 2005 at 2PM, conducted by the Reverend Dennis Morgan. Burial of ashes will be beside her late husband, Pioneer Cemetery, Gabriola Island, BC.
